three things for fall

fall

My favorite season is fall.  I refuse to call it autumn. That’s just over the top and pretentious.  I love everything about fall – the warm in the sun, cool in the shade, the breaking out of sweaters and jeans and scarves and soup recipes, and I can even humor the trend of creating everything with a pumpkin flavor. Because it’s fall. And everything is crisp. The air. The light. The apples. The leaves. The hurry up and harvest before winter sets in. Nature’s preparation for going internal. The blue sky against the golden trees. The sound of kids playing soccer. And football. The sound of rakes and leaves under feet. Love. It. All.

Wait – did I just say I love football? Yes, yes, I even love football. Narrowing it down to three things seems impossible. But here goes – three things for fall:

1. There’s a party going on right here. One of the things I love about fall is that there is always a festival or event or market happening. And it’s usually outside. It’s like everyone has to cram in all of their socializing and commerce before holing up for the winter. And then there’s just the fun fall stuff – apple picking, pumpkin patch, Halloween. So there’s a lot to do, and it isn’t a million degrees.  You can walk around, sit in the sun and not be a sweaty puddle. The cute factor is definitely raised in fall.  Which leads me to…

2. It’s all about layers. If I could wear these jeans, a sweater, a scarf and flats every day I would be a happy girl.  I love getting dressed in fall.  I am so happy to pack away the swimsuits and cover ups and shorts that I literally whistle while I work. See you next year stretched out, unflattering tankini– not missing you one single bit.

3. Squash it. Oh you know what I’m talking about.  So many shapes and colors. Some of it is is decorative but most of it is deliciousness. Fall is when squash really gets to shine.  Forget zucchini and summer squash. Butternut and acorn would kick their butts any day of the week.  Sure it can be a pain to peel and cook. If you’re too busy checking out festivals, you can also buy it pre-chopped into nice little pieces. I’m making it curried, roasted, into soup, pureed as sauce on pizza. No excuses. Eat your squash.

I love you fall.  There’s more fall on my Pinterest board aptly named, FALL.
